seperating trailing arms

Hi Guys. I am finally building my 71 C10 SWB. And upon taking apart the trailing arms I found corrosion in the u bolt holes and the 2 pieces of metal splitting apart from the rivets. Is this a common thing or only no? the truck is from NC, thought that without snow on the roads that this shouldn't happen.
Anyway, any suggestions? Like drilling out all the rivets and bolting them together or welding the two plates together or is it not worth it, just find different ones?
Thanks for your help.
