'02 Yukon/Tahoe front CV Shaft bad? Help.

SERIOUS clicking snapping from the left front wheel area when wheel turned all the way to the left and backing up slow or going forward and slowing for a sharp left turn. Thinking CV joint/shaft. Slight play when pulling on it by hand but not a ton of play. Never worked on one of these before. Any special tools or pullers or anything needed and does this sound like a reasonable diagnosis? Any help/input/tips are appreciated. Looks like just pull the rotor and front hub, split the inboard joint, and pull spindle too? Thanks in advance, Durg.
