Crossmember Weight bearing?

Hi guys. This is all new to me, but it's been fun learning. I've spent the last two hours trying to get the upper two bolts of the crossmember that is under the transmission and transfer case undone. Everything is so covered in grease, and it's such a tight fit to get wrenches on both sides of the bolt.
it's hard to know what I need to take off to get the thing dropped. Ultimately i'm going to drop the tranny and replace the clutch. It looks like the transfer case is bolted to the frame on one side. Is that all that is supporthing the T-case? Do I need to have anything supporting the transfercase and transmission when i remove the crossmember?
Thanks
