modifying edelbrock air gap manifold

I saw a video some time ago from carjunkietv.com were they dyno test edelbrocks manifolds and they show the rpm with a mod were they cut the interior plenum wall and the thing pulls numbers similar to the air gap.. wondering if that legit.
