Steering column

I'm having a issue with the turn signal switch and the ignition switch so I've been looking at columns. The one I have is not a tilt so I was looking to upgrade. Browsing summits webpage I noticed that new columns are not as bad as I thought and really, with a used one it will have issues in the future. It asks for the length of the column. Anyone know? My truck is a 82 with the 700r and non tilt. And with a aftermarket column i'm sure their is other things I would have to buy to adapt it. Anyone do this before and can shed some light or am I better off buying a used on and having it rebuilt?
