My heater finally works!

I've been working on fixing the heater in my green '68. It hasn't worked since I've owned it, and fixing it finally made it to the top of the list. First I rebuilt the heater box:

And then yesterday got the old one all tore off:

Today I worked on getting it all back together. First, I had to fix the hinge bolt nut that was rusted and broke when I tried to remove it. I'm not sure this is how Hoyle woulda done it, but this is what I did.

First, I got a little piece of 3/8ths all thread and a big fender washer. I had to cut the top of the washer off so it would fit flush to the inside. I then welded a nut to the washer:

Then I drilled a few holes around the bolt hole:

I fished the all thread/washer piece in through the hole and tightened a second nut to hold everything into place:

Then I plug-welded through the holes onto the fender washer, pulled out the all thread and spent a few minutes with a flapper disc. I put some primer on it after everything cooled off, but this is before that:

After that, it went together fairly easy. I had to change the way the control cables were hooked up because the PO had them wrong. It's tricky to get the round fan housing gasket to stay in place, but I got it finally:

All better:

It's all working good now. I wanted to change to a cooler thermostat, but our Next Day Napa didn't have what I wanted, so I get that later. But for now it's all good
