play on pitman shaft of power steering

guys, some help please.

I recently started hearing a "BOINK" when turning the car in the street. Couldnt find what is was till last week.

found that the pitman shaft moves up when steering to one side and then drops (BOINK) when I start turning to the other side.

I made a picture and added some arrows to make things clear:

the big arrow point to the pitman shaft
the vertical arrow shows the direction of the play on the axle.

I didnt measure it, but its like only 2-3mm and outside the car you can only see the play, but not hear it.

when you are in the car, you can hear the BOINK very clearly.

I already tried to looses the retainer nut on top and used a allen key to turn counterclockwise a quarter turn. tried that three times, but didnt seem to solve the play on the axle.

any ideas?
