Rear Main issue

Has anyone ever had trouble getting the top half (block side) of a two piece rear main out? I've got my 400 ready for it and the damn thing won't budge. Any tips or tricks out there? I've already tried to push around the top of the crank from both sides and damaged the ends, with no luck. I've loosened all the main caps and pulled the flywheel bolts and pushed the torque converter back, still no luck. I just don't want to have to pull the engine if I don't have to. Thanks for any help in advance.
