It has potential. I'd pay someone to buff and polish that thing. For a couple hundred I bet it would look like new paint. I'm guessing it could use a medium compound then work to a light and the polish it. Follow it up with a couple coats of wax and you'd be good. I like stories like yours. You saved it.
