Switch location problem

I'm installing my power window kit. The motors went in great. The switches ... That's a different problem.
I need to know how to mount the switches and where to route the wires. If I cut a hole in the interior door sheet metal and run the wires inside the door how do I connect the switch when the switch is mounted to the upholstery panel ?
Or should I run the wires between the sheet metal and the upholstery panel ?
This is in a 1949 Chevy 3100. Pictures or diagrams would be great.
Thanks for the help
