I guess that may be, but it still doesn't add up to me. My truck has patina pretty much everywhere. You've seen the pictures above. In person, it's even more prominent. Mine has that pink/salmon/rust colored primer on all the patina areas (hood, fenders, bed, doors), with the exception of one... The back of the tailgate. The tailgate so happens to not be original, and was repainted at one time. It's a 67/68 tailgate. You can see black patina under the blue.
Anyway, not trying to be argumentative here. Just trying to shed some light and figure it out
