Tires, tires....

I need to replace the tires on my truck. They've been there since about '94 and the RF is separating so it's well overdue. I want an OTR type tread, nothing aggressive, and probably something that suggests the original bias ply tread. Sizes I can use are 225/75 16 or 215/85 16. I'd looooove whitewalls. It's just not in the budget. In fact with my finances I'm probably looking at cheapie tires. But still... I'd loooove whitewalls. IMO the truck won't look it's best without them.

Has anyone here tried grinding / cutting the blackwall off a white letter / white stripe tire? How did it turn out? Would you do it again?

If I did happen to come up with cash for real whitewalls, where to get them other than Coker and Diamondback?

Any luck with Portawalls or fake whitewalls against radials?
