Crankshaft Pulley Issue

Happy Friday everyone! I've got a '67 C10 w/283 that I've pulled in favor of a new GM 350. The new harmonic balancer I've installed is currently held in with a bolt, but the bolt is keeping me from properly installing the crankshaft pulley (wont thread on due to the space generated by the head of the bolt). I'm curious if I even need the bolt now that the balancer is pushed on? My 283 had a much smaller balancer and it was not held on with a bolt. Any help is much appreciated!
