Seat reupholster - opinions sought
This is another of my list of projects to complete that I need some advice on.
I bought this folding seat for my truck to recover, and wondered about an issue I see on it. The springs in the seat look pretty good, but as can be seen in the photography the lower side springs are original one side, but on the other side a section of plywood was attached to the frame, and some sort of "helper" spring(s) were put in place of the regular springs. The spring is packed tightly with some sort of foam, but it is a bit crumbly and deteriorating. Can this be left as is, or is it possible to get spring attachments to fix this? I'm worried that the addition of the plywood would make seat covering attachment impossible - but maybe this was a legitimate upholsterer fix? Thanks, I am just not an expert.. Ned Original springs on one side. Plywood attached to other side. Spring(s) attached to plywood and seat.
