Does the transfer case dictate what shifter it has?

The reason I ask is that both my 84 K30's have a different shifter than my 85 K10 or most any other truck I have seen. Do the 205's get a different style verse the 203 and 208's. First two pics are K30's (sorry for it being blurry), the third is of a 85 blazer (not mine). This is how I usually see them. The second pic one of the K30's is full of junk. Don't mind it.

The 203 & 208 shifters seem to lean forward alot more than the 205's. Am I right on this. The 205's are something of their own.
