Floorpan Replacement

When I pulled back the carpet from my new ride (76 Sierra Classic) I had an ugly surprise - yes a nice view of my garage floor! So I need to replace the floorpans but I don't know where to start. Some of my questions are...
-- should I cut out the entire floor or just the bad spots?
-- who makes the best replacements?
-- what kind of welder do I need for these sheetmetal repairs?
-- any other tips on what to do and what NOT to do?
Any help from those that have been through this is really appreciated!!!
