Headlight bucket mod

I bought some new 7" headlamps that use the H4 bulb's, come to find out that the bucket opening will need to be opened up about 1/4 inch in all directions to make them fit,

If i decide to go back to sealed beam say if a rock takes out one of them out and i'm in a pinch, will the sealed beam still sit tightly in the bucket? or will the mod make a sealed beam not fight tight?

Debating if i should just buy a second pare and modify those instead. Thanks!
