I talked to Tom, read his write ups, talked to Patrick (Patrick's Antique cars and trucks), read several "tech" articles, and dozens of threads on this topic. I chose to go with exhaust heat to the manifold for two reasons: the original used exhaust heat, and it was a much cleaner look to achieve without worrying about a coolant leak!
Some guys don't heat it at all (normally in warmer climates than Tom is in up North) and report NO problems at all. Tom is a very smart guy, and VERY adamate about this topic, but in the end, the decision is yours! When I fired my engine for the very first time, it was only minutes before the copper tubing that I used started the dark rainbow coloring from the heat, so I know for a fact that the intake is getting hot quick, no waiting on the coolant to warm up!
Have you already plumbed it up? If so, my rambling did you no good, and I didnt even answer your question!
