Can you identify this?

On my '50 truck, I removed these 2 pieces last night form under my dash. I assume the 1st picture is the heater switch. As with most of the "rats nest" under dash wiring being cut, the 2 wires to this were cut also. It appears to be a switch with 3 or 4 speeds, and missing a knob.
Picture 2 was positioned in the wire going to the heater fan motor. This was clamped to the lower edge of the dash. No moving parts whatsoever. The threaded part is not turnable. The wires connected to it are the old cloth covered type. Anyone have a clue what this is?
