i need your opinion

i bought a 65 burban thats in rough shape\.. it has full air ride but it looks like it is a hack job.. question is my buddy has a 81 rolling frame. i have read a little bit about swaping over cross members to give me disc breaks. this cross member comes with 2 1/2 drop spindles and a 10 bolt rear end. question is swapping rear ends to keep it 5 lug? what all is involved? getting the trailing arms to work? also what about shortening the rear end to run a bigger tire. the rear is already notched with a messed up panhard a bar.. the rear end moves at least 4 inches from the up position to laid out.
