Re: 87 Suburban won't turn over/start. Any common problems I should look for?
My 88 R20 454 does the same thing. From others that have had the same problem its a common occurrence on the 454, due to the exhaust coming so close to the starter. The solenoid over heats and won't allow the starter to turn over until it cools off completely. Some possible solutions are:
1) Replace the starter make sure that the new starter has a heat shield. 2) Take Turbo heat tape and wrap the starter and/or battery cables. 3) Replace with a high torque starter with adjustable index that allows you to position the solenoid in a different location. Just some things to possibly stop this from happening again if you have to replace the starter anyway. |
