gas pedal help in 51 on s10

Hi
So I picked up a 51 chevy truck on a s10 frame and it has a custom gas pedal which is so rigged up I need to change it. I do like the pedal and hope I can still use it but it is so flimsy in design I cannot feel safe using it. Where it pivots...it is rigged with two nuts and then higher up the same way. It is welded to a rod that has a slight bend in it to the carb. I sure would like to keep the pedal but is there anything I could do or buy that would make this work better and secure?

what a ridiculous setup. Much to clean up under here....Sure appreciate the input. thank you.
