Unhappy Fuel pump question

Hi folks,
Just got back from a 2 week vacation and had a hard time starting my truck. Normally it starts right up. I noticed there wasn't much fuel in the fuel filter so I used starting fluid and cranked it over quite a bit and finally it started. Drove into town and back and it started fine. Is this possibly a sign that the fuel pump is giving up the ghost because it seems to have let the fuel back out of the filter and I'm guessing the fuel in the bowls of the Edelbrock may have evaporated?
Thanks,

Tom
