Rear end Question

I'm using a 8.5 10 bolt out of a 79 Z28 in my 51. I bought it all apart, and it had a TCI 4 link, and the brackets are on the frame and also tacked on the rear end. I got around to measuring tonight and the left bracket is around 3/4 of an inch closer to the backing plate than the right 1 is. That would be to allow for the off set in the pinion I guess. Is this the way you all are putting them in or do you center the pinion? The way it is would put 1 side out 3/4 more at the tire, r side, so I don't know if I like that or not.
