gas tank woe's

I plan on relocating the gas tank on my 72 3/4 ton 4X4 from behind my seat to elsewhere. But my bed sides already have good paint on them and i don't want to cut them for a gas door. I will haul a lot of crap in the bed, so i don't really want the gas cap in the bed floor (due to the fact that i don't want a bunch of stuff getting into my gas tank). Should i mount one in the bed of the truck, or try the whole marker light filler thing? For the marker light idea, where do you get the filler hose and how hard is it to route it between the inner and and outer bed side.
