Panhard/trac bar length issue question.

Dropping my '68 step, 5" springs in rear. While installing the cpp deluxe trac bar kit , got the lower bracket mounted to the right trailing arm, shortened the bar as much as possible, but still about 2 inches too long. Can't shift the rear over to the right any more as then the driveshaft hits the cross member. Measuring the bar, jamnut to nut it's about 36". When I measured my buddies, who apparently has the same kit, his measured 32". Cpp offered no help as even though it's their kit, I bought it through brothers. Did I somehow get the wrong bar even though the paperwork and instructions in the box says it's for a 67-72? What gives?!
