Hood pop?

Simple question for the know-it-all. What causes the hood to pop open when I pull the release?mine does not I have to reach inside the grill and push it up.then after closing it I have to push above the hinges to make it align with the other panels.is there a adjustment,oil,or other solution for this kind of problem?i did find a set of hood hinges to replace mine if someone can chime in it would be great.btw I will be at the Turlock swap meet today with my truck if someone is going they can show me what to do.thanks in advance.audie
