Computer Removal - '85 Short/Wide - Newbie Alert

Folks,

This is my first post here, so don't beat me up too bad if my posts come out kinda lame - I'm still early in my learning curve!!

I've got an '85 C10 short/wide, 2wd. It's registered here in VA as an antique, so no mechanical or emissions inspections any more. The truck already has Hooker headers into a true dual exhaust, and the intake/carb is "old school", not computer driven. From what I can tell, the only thing still running off of the computer is the HEI distributor, with it's 4 lead connector. I've scored a brand new conventional HEI that I want to swap in, so I also have the correct lead for it to connect to a 12 volt source. My question is, once the HEI is switched out, is there any reason to leave the computer in place, or can I neatly remove it, and terminate the power lead to it?

Jerry
