New member, new acquisition: all original 72 C10
Hey all --
I just jumped in with both feet and finally picked up a C10, one that I can drag kids and kayaks around in. It's a 72 with 79K original miles, barn-stored since it was last driven in 1996. I bought it about 100 miles away, turned the key once, and drove it home. I grew up driving Novas with the same drivetrain (350/Turbo 350), so it'll be fun to jog my memory while tinkering. I plan to keep it all original, as is: original paint, original seat, etc. It's white with ochre interior, all in great shape with only minimal cosmetic rust. There are a few issues I need to address: I presume the non-working rear turn signals and brake lights are just in need of a fuse (let's hope), one valve cover gasket looks to need a refresh (I'm sure I'll do both just to be symmetrical), and the emergency brake dashboard indicator is always lit when the truck is running, so I need to figure that out. The brake is disengaged, or at least enough to drive it with no smoke or resistance. Aside from those minor issues, it's ready to roll and have fun with. It's been awhile since I've driven a classic, so it was a treat to pull into a rest stop and immediately have three folks come over asking about it. I think I missed car people as much as I missed having a car. I'm a history buff, so I get a special kick out of the paperwork it comes with: original bill of sale, etc. The original purchaser owned it until his death in recent months. Needless to say, I'm psyched to have the truck and glad to have this forum for advice -- I'll undoubtedly need it! |
