Nazis in St. Louis plant? Chalk mark thread

I just acquired a 1972 swb Cheyenne Super and I'm disassembling it and adding rust-free sheet metal where necessary. The truck was built at the St. Louis plant in Nov.-Dec. of 1971. I found some of the usual chalk marks - X's on the radiator support, model number on rear frame crossmember and a very interesting find under the front suspension cradle. I thought it was an "X" until I scraped some of the gunk off. Definitely looks like a Nazi swastika to me! Any ideas on this one??
