1989 suburban transmission issues

whats going on guys,
Im new to this forum so I apologize in advance for any mistakes or mis-postings. heres my story, I bought my suburban and the 700r4 trans wont shift into 3 or 4. my question is should i have the 700r4 rebuilt, or attempt a 4l80e swap? the trans guy I went to said he would charge me 2200$ total for a rebuild and finishing touches when I reinstall it. the 700r4 is running behind a 454 which is why I assume it wrecked the trans. I have no idea what it would take to make this swap happen either, which is why I have come here for answers. all input is appreciated! thanks.
