1966 checy c10 won't start

So this is my first post to this site. I haven't used this site much at all, so I don't really know what I'm doing.. But I have a 66 Chevy c10 with a 230-6 and 3 on the tree. It has a factory rebuilt carb, head has recently been off for valve work, so it has all new gaskets from there up, and also has new spark plugs and wires. About a week or so ago it started getting harder to start. It would turn over but wouldn't fire for a while, which is why I changed the plugs and wires. After changing the plugs and wires, it started right up with no problem. The next time I drove it, it started fine again, but when I got ready to come home, it wouldn't start. I took the breather off and fumes poured out, almost as if it was flooded. And also the air filter had fuel on it. I ended up having to pull it off to get it to start, and after I got it home, it wouldn't start again, and has yet to start again. What could the problem be? If it is flooding, why? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
