what works for you

Hello! Now that the new year is here and I have a few extra dollars left over I thought I'd buy a welder to fix up my old rust bucket. I was wondering what you use use and what you would
recommend. This is mainly for repairing body panels on my truck and to see if I can actually weld. So with that being said $400 is my cutoff. One more thing do I need gas shield or not.
