72 gmc 2500 info?

Hi guys as the title states I'm looking for info about the 72 gmc 2500. One has come up for sale in my area and I'm thinking about picking it up.

What I want to turn it into is an autocrosser that I can drive on the street as well.

So my main questions are: the 2500 is 3/4 ton right? Also what are the differences between 1/2 ton and 3/4 frames? Would bolting a high end crossmember onto a 3/4 ton frame be any different? Also did the 2500's come with leaf springs or coils?

Its also a camper special if that helps.

Thanks for any help
