Axle Swap or no?

Got an 84 K10 and my rear axle broke. The ring, pinion, carrier, everything. I have been on the lookout for a replacement, but it has been tough. The truck has 3.08 gears, and has a 305 with a SM465 4 speed.

Instead of finding another 3.08 rear to swap in, which I can probably find during the spring, I found an interesting truck for sale. a 79 K30, with just a frame, cab, tranny t-case and axles. Guy will deliver it for $500 total. The truck was a town truck way back when.

Could that work? I would like stronger axles, but would also like a deeper gear ratio. What do you all think?
