Wheelbase - Whats Going On Here?
I have just purchased this 66 C10 short bed. All and all in good shape. However, there is something odd going on here with the wheelbase. PO installed a 77 C10 front cross member (in the correct position) and then got rid of the trailing arms and fit the 77 C10 leaf springs to the rear. The rear wheels appear to be too far back in the wheel wells. I checked the measurements from the front to rear center points and came up with 115 inches. According to the book this measurement is correct. Still the rear wheels are too far to the rear. I checked the front core support mounting and it appears to be all the way forward which leads me to believe the cab is too far forward as well. After checking all the measurements I can push the cab back about 1 inch. Even with that inch movement back the rear wheels will still be too far back.....appearance wise.
I'm really at a loss as to what is going on here....can you folks help?
The only way I can see to correct this is to move the cab back 1 inch and then move the axel forward on the leaf springs two inches. This will adjust the wheel base to 113 inches.....not the optimal solution though.
