DIY: Center console install

I see this question asked often on the boards. Thought I would pass along a discovery I made when installing my center console this week.

What you need: OEM console from a Suburban/pickup, the rear bracket and the 6 screws to hold it down. You also need a drill with a 3/16" bit and a 10mm socket.

At first I thought I would have to make measurements to install the suburban console. Not so.

GM provided divets in the floor pan to drill the holes. I lined up my console and the divets lined up. Awesome! Drill a couple 3/16" holes here.

For the rear holes, you need the bracket from the donor truck. The rear divets are less obvious, I used a sharpie to highlight them.

The little silver dots in the middle. drill these out as well.

Install bracket.

and then install console.

This was to install a 1989 console in a 1986 truck. Different years of console and truck may vary.
