birthday weekend with the woman and the truck!
well after spending my free time for the last couple weeks working on the old gmc, adding power brakes, power steering, all new door and window seals/regulators, carpet, armrest... etc, it was finally ready to go for a drive.
we took of for a 350 mile round trip cruise to vintage torque fest. even though my 70 is 5 years to new to be part of it, its still a good time hanging out with friends and family. we took friday and saturday off to be there fri sat sun.(i never have friday or saturday off!) this is how my birthday weekend started out. woke up to eggs and sausage friday morning... loaded up the truck and took off for our 3 hour drive over there. someone always seems to sleep on the road... must be nice! my best friend and his wife followed us there in their duramax dragging his 49 on the trailer(didnt feel like doing 45 mph all the way. especially since its only been moving under its own power with the original drivetrain for a couple weeks and maybe 20 miles! the girls hanging out where its warmer! yes there are bullet holes in the glass. hit up the show friday, and hungout late for all the bands that night. Saturday morning had another hott date with my ladies! cruising in style on the way to Knickers for some preparty breakfast bloody marys before heading to the show! its pretty rare to get a pic of me i dont mind, but the fiance managed this one when i wasnt paying attention. kicked back leaning against a friends big blocked 55 chevy just enjoying life with friends. Sunday morning before leaving town, some of us got together for birthday brunch and more bloody marys! cruising over to east dubuque for breakfast at Timmermans supper club. it has a heck of a view from the bluff the old tank made its 350 mile round trip, plus a bunch of running around with no real noticeable problems. heck we even averaged 85-90+ for probably an hour and a half or more on the way back. (tucked in behind someone who was apparently in a big hurry.) it didnt miss a beat. not sure what i got on the way back, but the way up running 70-75 i got a solid 15 mpg. best ive gotten was 17 but that was a day spent mostly on 55mph roads. getting old sucks, but i sure suppose it could be worse! |
