Starting question

So on truck swapped out starter. Started great than hard bit of kick back one start. Got underneath and bolts were loose. So tightened them. Truck started great for a day. Hot and cold starts. Then went out next day and did a bit of kick back on 3 starts. So jacked truck up loosened and retightened bolts again. This time I felt I got tbem good and tight immediately tried to start and did it again. So just left it. So the bit of kick back is just like 1 to 2 seconds then truns fine. What am I missing here is it timing?
