1972 c20 kickdown / detent cable help!!

Hi all,

I've been having trouble since I bought my truck getting it to kick down into gear when I mash on it. I'm new to these trucks and the th350 transmission, but I'm sure they are supposed to kick down into gear like any other vehicle.

I tried adjusting the cable as per instructions online and no dice. I then went and bought another cable from AutoZone. The geniuses gave me the wrong cable and the base of the cable wouldn't fit into the hole on the trans, so I had to put the original cable back.

The little pin inside the trans that hooks to the detent cable is there and intact, until I realized the cable they gave me was wrong I actually had the new cable all hooked up like the original one.

What could be causing it not to kick down? When I mash on it, it just accelerates from whatever gear it's currently in.

Please help!!
