Alternator and Power Steering Issues with my 5.3

1971 Suburban
2003 Tahoe 5.3 DBC

I'm not getting anything out of the alternator when I put a tester on the back of it. Thought for sure it was bad, but when I took it up to have it tested at O'Reilly's it came back good. Not sure if it's a ground issue or what.

Also, I have absolutely NO power steering at all. No whine or moan out of the pump. I used the fitting that allows you to use the original pressure hose and wondered if there was a check valve in there. It's almost like there isn't any fluid getting to the gear box. I'll yank off the hoses at the gear box later to check, but just wondered if anybody else had the same problem.
