Dirty vents, AC, heater

Recently got a 70 GMC 402 longbed and doing "a little clean up." I just can't believe what I'm pulling out of the vents, heater box, AC system. From what I see, junk can go right through the cowl openings and either pelt you in the face with dirt and dust or accumulate in the passages along the way. What are you guys doing to prevent this? Check this out - these fenders and side vent areas were filled from bottom to top. Had to remove the cowl just to get started cleaning:
