Question Before I Start Cutting...

Thought I would ask before I put it to the grinder. Has anyone put a Edelbrock 1405 on a 68 307 before? The throttle is connected to the old carb via a round piece of solid metal. On the 1405 it fits perfect in a lower hole but it has to go in the upper hole because when you press the gas it pulls the throdle instead of pushing it.
I think I can get it to fit using my grinder on the throttle metal bar but hate to grind anything that I may want to put back stock later.
