New owner of a 1985 C10

Hey everyone, new to the site. Just picked up an '85 C10 LWB, Silverado package a few weeks ago to use as a 'beater' truck. I think I like it too much Picked her up for the princely sum of $1300.

It has a 305/350, trying to get it running right. It sat for years. The transmission leaks and I think needs some repair or rebuilding. I'm pretty sure it's not getting into 3rd gear. Cold start is a bit rough. I had to adjust the timing and I've been adjusting the idle screws since the previous owner had them so jacked up. I think the choke may not be operating properly but I don't know enough about these carburetors.

I'm surprised at how little rust there is. None at the bottom of the bed or doors. A couple of spots here and there, perhaps from a neglected chip or ding. The roof and hood have some surface rust on them.

So far I've replaced the shocks all the way around, new drums, rotors, cylinders, calipers, etc. New tires (Goodyear wrangler, not in pics) and an alignment.

Need to get the trans looked at, since I don't know what I'm doing there. Trying to get the motor running right but my wife is the devil on my shoulder telling me to get one of those summit GM Goodwrench crate 350's and dropping it in for reliability (36 mo/100,000 mile warranty). Weird, right?

Anyway, look to do a lot of reading and learning. Already loving the build threads, although this isn't supposed to be a project since I already have one (97 SS Camaro in need of rebuild). Still might have some fun, though.
