Front clip swap

I have an 84 cab that is in great shape but want to restore my 77 pickup. I have tried two different early clips and can't get the bolts in the top rear most fender location to line up. I've loosened every bolt on the clip to allow movement, but with one bolt in either side the fender on the opposite side can not be pushed in far enough to allow the bolt to be installed. The original late clip fits perfect, and I haven't yet installed the front core support bolts. If the problem were with only one clip I might suspect unseen damage, but neither one aeema to line up. If needed I can post some pictures to show what the issue is.

Thanks in advance
Daryn
