Unaccurate fuel gauge

Hi Guys, semi new to this forum and had a quick question. Old tank was rusty and had to be replaced, i thought after putting a new tank, and float would help the accuracy of the fuel gauge. when its full it reads over full and when its empty it says just under half a tank. Do i some how reset the needle in the cluster or is there a wire somewhere in need of rescue? Thanks for any feed back!
