Dodge pickup frame vin help please.

I have a friend who wants to buy what he thinks is a 1972 Dodge D-100 short bed pickup.

Someone told me that the truck's cab is a '72 on a '78 frame so I am not interested in seeing my friend get into trouble with the dmv. I have looked online to try and find info on the frame vin location but no luck.....just a vin location on a Dodge RV with the vin located on frame behind the driver's side front tire at about 2 o'clock or so.

Called the CHP and they will not tell me because they do not give out that information.

Help from any Mopar heads would be very much appreciated, thank you.
