Fire extinguisher mount

I don't know if they all had them, but my truck has a spring doohickey in the back passenger corner of the cab next to the fuel tank.

Maybe there was a special type of fire extinguisher made to work with that. Or is it the jack mount and the original owner repurposed it? It has a 1971 inspection tag on it.

If this is indeed for a fire extinguisher has anyone come up with a clever way to use it for mounting one? I'd actually like to carry one.
