Glove box insert

I am starting with a truck that had no insert, having a bit of a hard time figuring how to secure a new insert. The new inset has four holes at the bottom, two on the side, and two on top. What I really cannot figure out is whether the insert is supposed to go inside or outside of the sheet metal.

For example, the bottom four holes seem to line up with the four screws that hold the hinge to the dash. But, the insert really does not want to sit above the dash, it seems to want to hang beneath it, in which case the screws holding the hinge on aren't going to hold it.

Does any of this make sense? Does anyone have a good picture that might help?
