How to remove axel hub retaining nuts????

Im doing a rear disc conversion on my '72 C20....the axel hub retaining nuts on the passenger side were only on hand tight and came right off once the tabs on the retaining ring were bent back, but the drivers side is torqued pretty good. I went out and bought a 2 and 3/8 inch socket, which fits the retaining nuts, but the outside diameter of the socket is too big to fit in the center of the hub. Is there a special tool for getting these things off?

Thanks
